M. Moshrefzahdeh et al.: Towards a distributed digital twin for the agricultural research environment – The Smart Rural Area Data Infrastructure (SRADI)

David Gackstetter is employed as researcher and project engineer at Hans Eisenmann – Forum – the central institute for agricultural sciences of Technical University of Munich (TUM). From his background in environmental and data sciences, Mr. Gackstetter is in charge for the institute’s Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence related research projects. These comprise for instance the development and adoption of a comprehensive IoT infrastructure for all research facilities of the TUM School of Life Sciences at Weihenstephan campus.

Mandana Moshrefzadeh is a Ph.D. candidate at the chair of Geoinformatics at Technical University of Munich (TUM) and a research associate at Hans Eisenmann-Forum, the central institute for agricultural sciences of TUM. Her research focus is on management and integration of information for smart cities and regions taking into account both technical and human aspects of such complex systems. She has worked in several European and regional projects such as Smart Sustainable Districts and EnablingSmarterCity funded by EIT Climate-KIC. 

“Smart Rural Area Data Infrastructure – SRADI” is a multidisciplinary information infrastructure which handles various stakeholders, multiple applications and distributed information resources. As part of the SRADI concept we address the challenges and requirements related to the distribution of information across multiple domains and between diverse stakeholders. In order to deal with such complex interactions and interconnections of multiple disciplines including the roles of different stakeholders we have introduced the notion of Distributed Digital Twin.

In this work we will present our researches and developments in the context of the SRADI concept including its Distributed Digital Twin and components such as Catalogs, IoT and Sensor Networks, and Virtual Cultural Model.
